Al Bowman
Founder - 23rd Annual Los Angeles Music Awards.

The Los Angeles Music Awards has a 23 year history, dating back to 1991. It all began in 1991 by
Al Bowman, who was inspired by a conversation he had with Bill Gazzarri, only 3 days before his death.

Gazzarri, often seen wearing his trademark white Fidora hat, was known for giving musicians their start.
During their conversation, which took place on March 3, 1991, Gazzarri gave Bowman his hat then
bequeathed onto him the title “Godson of Rock-n-roll”, giving him his blessing to go be the voice of
independent music in Los Angeles.

Just 9 months later, Bowman single-handedly kicked off his first annual Los Angeles Music Awards
event, as a tribute to honor local musicians and help them gain exposure for their
recordings and live performances.

The 22 year old Los Angeles Music Awards is the historical vehicle that carries the Hollywood F.A.M.E.
Award presentations at our annual red carpet gala. These prestigious awards are a celebration of film,
art, music and entertainment, hence the acronym: F.A.M.E. This portion of our program is now it's
sixth year and is a major draw for mass media on our red carpet every year. Recent recipients include
the family and band members of Michael Jackson and the widow and only son of the legendary James Brown
for the 2011 Twin Legacy Awards. Other recent Hollywood F.A.M.E. Award recipients include former
U.S. President Jimmy Carter, Golden Globe winner and Oscar nominee Sally Kirkland, multiple Grammy
winner Keith Olsen, legendary producer / engineer Eddie Kramer and Posthumous Awards presented to
the families of the late Jaco Pastorius and Ronnie James Dio.

Both of these programs are the originators of the concept for community based awards show events.
When we began this business in 1991,there were a total of 73 awards shows in existence. All of
them were INDUSTRY events, unlike our concept for a COMMUNITY event. Today, there are over 1,500
awards shows around North America, all copying our community event business model.

A few locations where our event was held in the past include The House of Blues,
Hollywood Palladium, the Beverly Hilton International Ballroom, Henry Fonda Music Box Theatre,
and Paramount Studios.

The rest as they say is history......
